There is a chihuahua loose on our front porch!

Beserker Boy

Ok to quote my better half Red here;

“I am an animal lover everyone who knows me, knows that. My whole thing though is that when it comes to dogs I look at them the same way I do children, I dont deal with the small ones.”

I am a Big dog lover.. I own 2 Rotties and a White Alsation/Russion Kavas mix… So when I took out the trash last night and found this little yap dog going berserk on my front porch I called Red out and asked her what she thought we ought to do about it. Of course it didn’t help that, our dogs could hear the yapping taking place, and were adding their deeper big dog voices into the mix. God the neighbours are going to love us. It’s 11:30 at night and doggie hell is taking place at our house. Ok so we look around and don’t see anyone. So we figure the little beserker is lost.

Red and I were finally able to get it to come to us (it took almost an hour of chasing) and decided to take it inside where it was warm. Beserker boy was shaking worse than they normally seem to. Red got in the car and drove the block trying to spot someone out looking for their dog. Nope. Not a soul in sight. Damn! Now what?

So when Red got home she called our animal expert TurtleRex and asked her advice. We decided to put the dog in a animal carrier for the night.

We had a medium sized one he would fit in and be comfortable. Then we would look for the owner in the morning. Damn! I just knew he was going to sit and Yap all night. But he was surprisingly quiet. Of course all of our dogs just knew there was another animal in the house but could not find it (we put it in the computer room and close all the doors). I just knew that a meeting of dogs would not go well… Our boys do not do small dogs any better than I do. And if they did not look at it as a snack they would try to play with it. And I just knew it would end up a bloody mess. So with that done we just delt with our dogs snuffling at the door all night long.

So when Red got home from work the next day we got back in the car and drove all over the neighbourhood looking for it’s owners. Asking anyone we found if they knew it or it’s owners.. No luck. So after about an hour of this we gave up and drove home. Red had the briliant idea of calling the local vet hospitals to see if anyone had reported a lost beserker. We left our info and hoped for the best. I figured we would give him one more night here and if we didn’t find his owners by tomorrow, then it was off to the pound and hope for the best.

Well within an hour my cell phone rang, and we learned that the little beserker’s name was Andy and he had a mom that missed him very much and was worried that he might have been hurt. We told them that he was ok. And they said they would be right over to pick him up. Seems he lived only 2 blocks from us. But in the other direction to the search area Red and I had taken. Within the hour our little beserker was reunited with people he knew. Whew!

And we did our good deed for the day… Now as I said. I do not care for little rat dogs, but it did make me feel good to get him back to his owner. I know if one of mine got lost I would hope that the people that found him would do the same for me…

So another day in the exciting life of Red and Dragon goes into the electronic history books…

“Hmmm New Teeth, Weird”!

Web 2.0 … We’re teaching the machine, and the machine is us.

Here’s a brilliant video by Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, who schools us on Web 2.0 from start to finish.

You Are Samuel Adams
You’re fairly easy to please when it comes to beer – as long as it’s not too cheap.
You tend to change favorite beers frequently, and you’re the type most likely to take a “beers of the world” tour.
When you get drunk, you’re fearless. You lose all your inhibitions.
You’re just as likely to party with a group of strangers as you are to wake up in a very foreign place.

So called “Friends and Gifts”

Just what the fuck is it with people today….?

My room mate just informed me that someone that I once knew and called friend had asked him to ask me for some of his stuff back that he gave us as a gift.  When did the rules on gift giving change? Was I asleep? Did I miss the memo? Is it perhaps the air here in Missouri? No then perhaps the water…

I was brought up to understand that when you give someone a gift , it is theirs to keep. Hence the name “Gift”.  If you intend to reclaim it one day then you just tell the person you are giving it to that you just need them to hang on to it for a while and you will come back and get it eventually…

I thank the god’s and goddess’s that in less than a month that Red and I will be on our own again. We have just come to realize that we are not room mate material. We live and march to a much different drummer than most. And we do fine together. In the last 7 years we have lived with many people. Either we lived with them as room mates or they lived with us. Sometimes it was good and some times it was bad.. Very Bad. But it was a learning experiance..

Now Red and I do have Phamily that has never given up on us. That is what Phamily is for. They love you no matter what.. But the last 7 years has taught us that friends come and go. For any number of reasons. And occasionsly they leave you a parting gift such as a knife in the back. But no matter, life goes on and if you stem the bleeding fast enough you live to move on.

Now a little history here on this so called gift… It constitutes several pieces of lifestyle equipment. Some floggers and a few paddles to be exact. Well this “once” friend had decided that he was done with the lifestyle and wanted nothing more to remind him of it. Ok, cool. Shite happens…  And since Mim had admired one of his famous paddles since the day he aquired it he decided that she was to be the new owner of it and several other pieces he had. Since he no longer had any uses for them. Now you have to understand this person was our friend for over 5 years. And we had gone through a lot of shit with this person. Good and bad. But we never told tales out of school and never outed him, nothing. We always treated him as more of a brother than a friend. We had considered him Phamily.  He was that close of a friend. Or so we thought. Until several months ago. Somewhere down the line he had listened to other people and I am not sure to this day as to what was said. But we became the evil incarnite and were to be ostrisized from all that was good. SO as would happen things were said and one thing led to another and we have not spoken since… Well not so actually.. I heard through people that his dad had passed and I took in upon myself to send him an email to offer him our condolences. His dad was a nice guy…

Well I never got a response to the email .. Not that I figured I would. So life went on.. Until tonight. Then out of the blue my room mate told me he saw him and he asked for his stuff back… Of course my first response was , “if he wants it back let him ask for it”. And of course the room mate responded with, “I’m just the messenger” , and I heartly responded right back, “And that is why I am not shooting you”...

I mean what the fuck.. This is the second time in less than a month I have been told .. hey you know that shit I gave you as a gift when we were friends.. Yeah well we are not friends now so I want it back… When did gift giving become dependant on the state of a relationship?? How many Life Memo’s have I missed while I was asleep or at work??

You know.. I am tired.. If you want your shite back bud.. Then grow the fuck up and ask for it like a man. But just to save you some pain and anguish. The answer is NO. Not only No but Fuck No. You gave that stuff to Mim. It is hers now not yours. You gave it up.

GIFT.. Look it up in Websters… If, and this is a mighty BIG IF.. We ever become friends again.. Maybe , MAYBE I will give it to you as a gift and show you just what a gift is… I wont be petty enough to ask for it back..

GoodBye to a Friend

Goliath Our Burmese Python

Today was a hard day for Mim and I. As of 11:00 AM this morning we said our good bye’s to one of our kids. Goliath… It was for the best.. We keep telling ourselves this… Now don’t get all bent out of shape… Mim and I don’t have any “Children” of the Human variety. Our kids are our animals.

We are getting ready to make another move into a nice home with my nephew and his fiancee. We are purchasing the home, not renting it. We are good animal parents. But Goliath was in need of a better home. We could not provide for him the way he needed to be taken care of. Now just in case you do not know. Goliath is a 10’ Burmese Python. He is one of the calmest snakes I have ever had the pleasure to know. We have been Goliath’s parents for the last 2 years. But as I said we are not the best snake parents. We are mainly dog and cat people. But we do rescue any animal we think is in need or in danger.

Now Goliath did not have the best of times growing up. He was rescued from an abandoned apartment, a tank with no heat, no water, no food, nothing. When he was rescued he was about 3 years old, 3 feet long and about as thin as a garden hose. He has at least 4 partial sheds on him and the caps were still on his eyes. He was miserable and in danger of dying. He was rescued by 2 friends of ours. They had Goliath for about 2 years and he grew to about 9 foot and finally became the snake he was meant to be. But the friends already had several large snakes. So they knew we rescued animals and asked us if we could take Goliath.

Well Mim and I are not ones to turn away an animal in need. So we said OK. But we both knew the day would come that we would have to find Goliath a home where he would be loved and taken care of the way he should be. We did our best for him. He really helped me get over my fear of snakes. Trust me I was scared shit-less of large snakes. Especially Burmese. They have a bad reputation for being cranky and downright nasty. But Goliath was the complete opposite of everything I have ever read on his breed. He loved music. He was one of the most social snakes I have known. He was always out and paying attention to everything that was going on in our house. His cage was in our living room. So he was more or less involved with all of our daily lives.

Now you have to understand. We have 3 cats and 3 very large dogs as well… We had 5 cats up until recently. 2 of the oldest passed away just a few months ago. Peyote who was Mim’s companion for the last 21 years and Hecate. So that left us with 3 cats..

We loved Goliath but we knew he could have a better life with parents that were snake people. So Mim went on a hunt for the right people to take Goliath. And we finally found a couple in Kansas that love and rescue reptiles. The husband of the couple goes around to school’s and shows the snakes. And with Goliath’s easy going nature he is going to be a hit with the kids.

So today was a very sad day for Mim and I. We finally had to say good bye…

We will miss you Goliath…

But we will Never forget you…

Rock on SciFi Channel

It’s about time the American viewing public woke up to the Mastery of Science Fiction that is known as “Doctor Who“. And now the SciFi Channel has dont it.

I have been a Dr. Who fan since I was a child. I have followed the Doctor through all of his past 10 regenerations. From William Hartnell ( The first Doctor) all the way to David Tennant, the New and now 10th Doctor.

One of my all time favorites was of course Tom Baker ( The 4th Doctor). But since, I have had the pleasure to see Christopher Eccelston and now David Tennant in the role of The Doctor I am no longer sure. Along with the ability we have today to do the CGI. It is now more awesome than I could ever have imagined..

Welcome to the USA Doctor… I can’t wait till March for the first episode… ;) Although truth is I have already seen all 13 episodes from the 9th Doctor as well as the beginning of the second season with David Tennant…. God it is good to have friends… Huh Brently?
